Prologue — The Name and the Breath
Before all things, Yahweh—the Eternal—spoke His Name: “I AM THAT I AM” (Ex 3:14).
From everlasting to everlasting He is God (Ps 90:2), the One who alone “stretched out the heavens… and spread out the earth by Myself” (Isa 44:24).
Creation is His decree; being is the echo of His will.
Yet in the deep of His counsel, His will is not solitary. From Him proceeds Sophia—Wisdom, Holy Spirit, Shekinah—His radiant Breath moving over the waters (Gen 1:2), His Glory filling the Tent (Ex 40:34–35), His Presence dwelling among a people. She calls from ancient paths:
“The LORD brought me forth at the beginning of His way… before His works of old;
from eternity I was established, from the beginning, before the earth began.” (Prov 8:22–23)
“When He established the heavens, I was there… I was beside Him like a master craftsman, daily His delight.” (Prov 8:27,30)
The sages magnify her:
“In her is a spirit intelligent, holy… a breath of the power of God, a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty.” (Wis 7:22,25–26)
“Wisdom exalts her children and lays hold of those who seek her.” (Sir 4:11)
“She will meet him like a mother, and like the wife of youth she will welcome him.” (Sir 15:2)
In the language of Kabbalah she is Shekhinah, the indwelling Presence—the Bride who adorns the King; not an independent deity, but God’s Spirit and Wisdom proceeding from Yahweh.
Yahweh the Creator
He is the Maker of heaven and earth, whose word structures the cosmos:
- “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” (Ps 33:6)
- “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One.” (Deut 6:4)
Will is His scepter; truth His foundation; mercy the shine of His face. He does not only transcend—He speaks, chooses, loves.
Sophia — Wisdom, Spirit, Shekinah, Bride
Sophia orders what Yahweh wills. She is understanding to His decree, adornment to His structure, tenderness to His power. She builds and invites:
- “Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.” (Prov 9:1)
- “Does not Wisdom call? Does not Understanding raise her voice?” (Prov 8:1)
- “Whoever obeys me will not be put to shame, and those who work with me will not sin.” (Sir 24:22)
Her way is motherly:
- “How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings.” (Mt 23:37)
- “Wisdom is justified by her children.” (Mt 11:19; Lk 7:35)
In the mystery of redemption she is the Bride imagery that crowns the end: “the holy city… prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev 21:2)
The Firstborn Son — The Logos
From Yahweh and through Sophia comes forth the Son—not an abstract attribute nor a self-existent second source, but their literal child, the firstborn of their love: Jesus, the Logos, the Word in whom Will and Wisdom are one.
- “You are My Son; today I have begotten you.” (Ps 2:7)
- “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Mt 3:17; cf. 17:5)
- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him.” (Jn 1:1–3)
- “He is the firstborn of all creation… by Him all things were created… and in Him all things hold together.” (Col 1:15–17)
- “He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact imprint of His being.” (Heb 1:3)
- “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (Jn 1:14)
In Him the Father’s fire and the Spirit’s light harmonize. He is the living bridge: decree becomes meaning; meaning becomes form; form becomes life.
